Citroën C5

A very competent car on the road. Not the fastest but capable enough - fuel consumption is poor though at about 39mpg. Would expect it to be a lot better, but still only 10k on the clock.

Citroen C5 Review

A lot of harsh critics are telling that the Citroen C5 has its design inspired by German cars and yet it is a known fact that its manufacturer is French. The identity can be confusing but for the general outlook, the C5 is a good buy. Before you go out and see for yourself what makes the C5, you might be interested with the following general facts:

  • The Citroen C5 has 11 models. Most of the variants uses diesel except for the 1.6 16V THP VTR which used unleaded gas.
  • Engine size ranges from 1560cc to 2993cc.
  • Carbon Dioxide emissions range from 130g/km to 167g/km.
  • It has striking similarities with Peugeot 407 and with other German cars, and with the main difference is its self-leveling suspension technology which they branded as the Hydractive 3+.

1. Comfort -   the driver and its passengers are relished with comfort as most users give it a 5-star rating. One of the reasons for this perfect rating is its massaging feature that leaves the driver and the passengers relaxed throughout the journey.

2. Performance – the C5 can get quicker to 60 mph in 10 seconds. To some, this may not be fast enough but the main attraction is its torque-packed diesel engine. Most critics give it a four-star.

3. Styling – Much improvement is done with the second generation C5s. It looks stunning and sleek for some and others may not be quite in awe with its exterior and interior designs. But to tell it all, the rating is 4 out of 5.

4. Quality – There’s not much issue regarding its quality and reliability. The reason maybe is that it got its design inspired by German cars. The interior of the car has its solid look and less rattling plus its soundproof features. The grade is still 4 out 5 stars.

5. Handling is twice as much comfortable, thanks to the Hydractive 3+ suspensions. However the downside of it is its steering wheel that can be a little bit lighter for the driver’s feel. The rate is 3 over 5.

6. In terms of space, the C5 may need a little bit improvement. 6-feet passengers might find it quite uncomfortable on his or her legs. The grade: 3 out 5.

7. For other add on features – it’s good that it has an mp3-compatible speakers. All becomes better that it is equipped with a satellite navigation device called NaviDrive.

8. The running cost can be quite expensive due to the Hydractive 3+ suspension technology but in the long run, it’s all worth it. The rating: not bad with a three out of five stars.

9. Environmental care – the C5 variant with the lowest carbon dioxide emission is the 1.6HDI with emissions as low as 130g/km.

And for the final verdict for Citroen C5: a recommended buy especially with models that are built after 2007. It does not really matter if the Citroen C5 is German or French, as long as it meets expectations, it’s all worth it.
